Topics covered in print and by video will include weather, aerodymanincs, emergency proceedures, decision making focusing on safety. The Training aspect of your course will provide the student with solid working knowledge of the equipment used, simulator time with a mock reserve parachute deployment. Our course includes the material and skills covered in the P-1 course and will prepare you for your first high-altitude mountain flight. You will learn how to assess weather conditions, layout your wing and do a preflight check on the paraglider and the harness. You will have learned both forward and reverse launch techniques and will learn to control your wing through turns and mild turbulence. Having spent time on our simulator visualizing different scenario before encountering them in the air, the student will have more confidence as the instructor gives radio instructions for the set up and landing of the glider. After each flight, a debriefing will take place to review the strengths and weaknesses of the student's flight. Emergency procedures and how to avoid dangerous situations will be discussed at length. The syllabus is based on the USHPA Pilot Proficiency Program and is very thorough. All equipment while at the training hill (a paraglider, harness, helmet and radio) is provided. Successful graduates of this program who pass the written USHPA exams and fulfill the requirements necessary for the rating, will be certified as Novice Pilots and authorized to fly without the direct supervision of their instructor with specific operational restrictions. However, we encourage all of our graduates to continue to fly with us and other alumni of our program as they work towards their P3 intermediate rating. Equipment Purchases A new student should be well into his or her lesson program before deciding to purchase his or her own equipment. The time spent on the training hill will give both the student and the instructor the opportunity to choose a wing that is best suited to the student's abilities and their intended use. It is your instructor's job to help you select your first wing. Different paragliders have different characteristics and require different skill levels. The guidance of your trusted instructor will ensure that you choose a glider that will give you many hours of safe and fun flight. We ask that students purchase their equipment through our school. We carry all major brands at competitive prices. Lessons are priced in accordance to this understanding.
